Welcoming words from the webmaster !
Welcome to the September issue of the THSESWS newsletter. It has been a pleasure to see
so many of our ex-students using the Lalo Kasia Forum as well as the Paini Mutu Chat Room.
Most of the topics discussed in the forum were very interesting, encouraging and surely
helped us to remain as a community.
I must also apologise for the delay in publishing this month's newsletter. Term 3 has been a very busy term for me and finding time to do the newsletter for this month has been a struggle. However, the good news is - it is now spring here in Australia and things
are looking much brighter, so as my enthusiasm to maintain our site.
I must also take this opportunity to welcome the "Wellington Chapter" and many thanks go to
Tae Tu'inukuafe for co-ordinating the first chapter from the land of the " Long White Cloud". Welcome to you ALL!

Leading News
During the month of August and the first week of September, the principal of Tonga
High School - Dr. Lia Maka
contacted THSESWS to convey her love to all ex-students. She was also delighted to finally see
a site dedicated to Tonga High School. She has been in New Zealand as an Unesco Research Fellow for 6 weeks doing postdoctoral
research on Media representations regarding Pacific and Asian women at Auckland University.
Dr. Maka reassured THSESWS that upon arrival back in Tonga she would personally arrange
for the delivery of relevant information from Tonga High School to be published on this site. I am delighted with this news and the THSESWS see this as a step forward in our on-going affiliation with the current administration.
Dr. Maka
specifically requested to post the following on our newsletter. "Please include in your newsletter that ex-student groups can do a
project to the present school. For e.g., the ex-students of 76-82
(Tongan chapter - Tapu Panuve, Paula Ma'u etc.) are renovating Lab 1
and have reshelved, painted, put cupboards in already. They have
also replaced the old fume cupboard and are planning to have it
tiled! They have already spent $5,000.00. They also bought a new
overhead projector for the science dept., but which is used by
all other depts. Other students are paying school fees whilst some
have donated money specified for a particular project. I will send
you past newsletters once I get to Tonga. Can you put out a request from the Present school to any ex-students
who wish to donate fiction/non-fiction books to our library, or any
old computers or typewriters to the school - they are desperately
needed. Please let them get in touch with me."
Food For Thought: This month's "Take Home Message".
The THSESWS-Newsletter is pleased to post the survey below which was prepared by 'Amelia Piutau of the Hawaiian Chapter, this survery has
appeared on the "Lalo Kasia Forum" before but due to the quality and significance of this survey, I am pleased to publish it
on this newsletter to further highlight the importance of education to our children. As stated on this site's "Mission Statement", education is a priority and we as parents must promote education in any way we can.
