During the Christmas of 1996, the Tonga High School Brass Band toured Australia. It was a very successful tour in terms of funds raised. The motive behind the tour was to raise enough funds to help with the band and to build two computer laboratories. In fact, the school band came here to Melbourne and then to Sydney and Brisbane. The resulting funds were used to set up the much needed computer laboratories for the school. With the help of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), enough money were allocated to fund the renovation of another class-room making way for the installation of the school's second computer laboratory. It is hoped that in the future (with the availability of funds), a third computer laboratory will be built.

The use of computers in schools cannot be under-estimated. Computers are excellent learning tools and they must be used by any student of any age. Fortunately, Tonga High School's administration got their act together pretty soon and a "new era" came into existence - Tonga High has proudly joined the computer technology "band wagon". The computer labs were part of the showpieces of the Golden Jubilee celebration. The labs were shown off - much to the delight of all ex-students who were present at the Golden Jubilee celebration in 1997. The newer of the two computer laboratories was officially opened during the 50th Anniversary celebrations by HRH Princess Salote Pilolevu Tuita.

The THSESWS was hoping to provide ex-students with updated information on the state and current use of computers at Tonga High School but the information from Tonga High School hasn't arrived. It is hoped that Tonga High School's administration would be kind enough to supply us with the latest information on the use of computers and computer courses running at Tonga High School in the near future.

The most satisfying news for the ex-students is the fact that Tonga High is now moving with the computer technology and we all hope that everything is going well and students use this technology to its full potential. However, eventhough there are two computer laboratories available to students, not everyone has access to these computers. So, the principal of Tonga High School and her staff would very much welcome any computers donated by ex-students. Now, if there are computers sitting out there without being used then please think of donating them to our beloved school.

Finally, to all ex-students - next time the Tonga High School band tour your local area, think of the funds that they need to raise in order to help with the education of the current students. Let us help in any way we can to make Tonga High School efficient and competitive in the ever changing world of information technology.
