WORDS FROM THE WEBMASTER & THE THSESWS NEWSLETTER EDITOR:
Welcome to the THSESWS monthly newsletter for the month of May,2000. As appeared on our newsletter for the month of April, the principal of Tonga High School did ask for any help from ex-students. Clearly, there is a need for everyone to chip in with whatever you can afford. Therefore, please contact the principal if you want to help. Many thanks go out to those of you who have helped out by supplying the balls for various teams in rugby and netball. Read more about this in the news from the principal.
It is very encouraging to see the current principal of Tonga High School taking an interest in the THSESWS and she is happy to give us any information that we may want for the benefit of all ex-students. Thank you Mrs E. Ha'angana for your support and willingness to work with us for the betterment of our school.
Also featuring in this newsletter is a transcript of Mr John Edward Hunt's letter (Mr Hunt is a former principal of Tonga High School). Mr Hunt is more than happy to meet any of his former pupils and he has supplied his email addresses and his phone number for any of his former pupils to contact him and his wife. For ex-students who are now in the "Land of the Long White Cloud", please drop Mr Hunt a line or call in and see this lovely person.
As usual, the THSESWS continues to fulfil some of its goals by bringing together old friends, teachers with their ex-pupils and classmates from various parts of the globe. Go THSESWS!
Without further ado, let us move on!

MELBOURNE CHAPTER GENERAL MEETING:
I am happy to announce that our General Meeting was held at Rev.Kioa's residence on April 29,2000. Despsite the small percentage of members who were present, the office bearers for 2000 were elected. The following people kindly accepted their roles and would do their best in making sure that the Melbourne chapter will continue to play a supportive role in keeping its members as a strong unit and be as successful as ever in fulfilling its goals and purposes.

NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
- We just started term two this week together with three conferences here at
Nuku'alofa, and guess what? 15 teachers were away on Monday, 14 on Tuesday
so we ended up having half days as 13 classes had to be supervised at one
period!!! Parliament will open next Thursday 25th, so the school and staff
will have the marching competition as usual. Netball and Rugby season
will also have the kickoff (or throwoff!!) on Friday 26th, the principals
might decide to have that on the same day so that we won't lose class time.
- The ex-students have kindly purchased 10 rugby balls and 10 netball balls.
Mahalo 'e 'ikai too e fakamole ia ha toutou malohi 'a e ngaahi timi kehe.
Kuo loto lelei 'a e kau ako tutuku 'e ni'ihi ke tokoni mai ki he coaching.Thank you all for helping our kids have the balls they require for the rugby and the netball season.

We are now getting closer to the time of the year when exams start to take over. Mid-year exams start on 12th June and we still hope to get typewriters, we
are borrowing machines from 'Eua High School.
Better sign off,

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE:
What a touching experience to see one of our former principals still having an interest in our school. Mr John Edward Hunt contacted the THSESWS a few weeks back. He was very pleased to see a web site for Tonga High School and he would like to keep in touch with former pupils and to catch up with them. He is happy for any of the ex-students to call in and see him and his beloved wife at their residence in New Zealand.
Below is a transcript of Mr Hunt's letter.
Dear Sir,
In case you have not been notified previously, here are the
names of two former Principals before me.The first was Mr Green in
1947. He was succeeded by Mr Raymond Harrison who was appointed in 1947 I
think after serving at Tonga College. He was the Principal when I arrived
as Deputy Principal in May 1950,. Mr Harrison left for New Zealand half
way through my term and I was appointed Principal in June 1951 until I
returned to New Zealand in May 1953.
My wife ,Jean, was also a teacher in both the Primary and Secondary
divisions of the school.
Among our pupils were George Akau'ola, Clive Edwards,Ala
Taumoepeau(Tufui)Cecilia Edwards, Sita Heimuli to name a few.
Mrs Hunt and I visited Tonga in 1984 and had a very pleasant reunion
with many of our ex-pupils.
In 1997 we returned for the 50th celebrations and spent the whole week
at the various functions renewing friendships formed in the years 1950
to 1953. We have had many visitors in New Zealand and hope that any old ex-pupils
who visit NZ will contact us.
I have two Internet addresses: j.e.hunt@paradise.net.nz
or jehunt@tongaonline.com which I have just logged into tonight.
Home Phone is 64-09-4388197 and my fax No. is the same as the phone.
We would be pleased to hear from any ex-pupils either on the Internet or
by letter,phone or fax.
I hope you will be able to pass on my message
Malo aupito aupito from Jean and John Hunt
PHOTOGRAHIC CHANCES - SMILE....SNAP, SNAP, SNAP:
For all of you who are going to attend the celebration in Sydney, please remember to bring along your camera. This will be a chance of a life time to take pictures of classmates and everything else during the celebration. You will then send some of your photos to the THSESWS to be published for others to share those memorable moments. We may even have a separate section for the celebration photos. Therefore, pack that camera now and put it into your suitcase in case you forget.
