WORDS FROM THE WEBMASTER & THE THSESWS NEWSLETTER EDITOR:
Welcome to the THSESWS monthly newsletter for the month of July 2000. This month marks a significant landmark in regards to our web site. The THSESWS has been online for one year. I would like to thank Tevita Tapa of the Sydney chapter for his ongoing support in supplying information from their chapter. Special thanks to Mrs 'Evaline Ha'angana for her continuing interest in our work. I would also like to thank Miss 'Amelia Piutau for her tireless work in compiling information for our monthly newsletters. She has also been a fantastic colleague to work with and her encouragement, advice and help has made it possible for me to keep going. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all ex-students who have had faith in us by allowing us to provide online services to all Tonga High School Ex-students and all visitors to the THSESWS. We knew it from the start that taking on such a task of providing a web site for the most prestigious school in Tonga was a challenge and a lot of hard work but after one year of service, I think we have made it or should I say "Mission Accomplished!".
Recently, the THSESWS has received messages of encouragement and congratulations from all over the globe for the work that has been done to this site. This site of course is the most comprehensive of its kind on the internet in terms of its commitment to covering all matters related to a particular school. So, let us not stop here but to keep on seeking for more improvements to the way we operate in order to serve our THS Ex-students' communities worldwide.
The THSESWS would like each chapter to nominate one or two members as correspondents in order to compile any news related to their own chapter for our monthly newsletters. By doing this, it will make our job much easier and our readers will then have access to a variety of news rather than being limited to the only news 'Amelia and I do manage to compile. This of course will make our web site more efficient. Meetings and social functions conducted by each chapter are some of the things other chapters would like to hear about. We can all share ideas via the internet. We also need writers to perhaps write articles on any topic of interest so that the rest of us can share. Remember that we can never stop learning. Our ex-students do have a vast array of resources knowledge-wise and we can learn from each other. All we have to do is share them. Volunteers may write poems, short stories or essays on any topic of interest.
This month's newsletter also features news from the current principal, Mrs 'Evaline Ha'angana. She has updated us on the current status of all our rugby teams as well as the netball teams. From what we have gathered, it is clear that our netball teams are doing much better than our rugby teams. Well boys, participation is what counts and any victory that comes your way is an added bonus. Anyway, Congratulations to the girls. On behalf of the THSESWS, we would like to convey our support and encouragement to members of all Tonga High School teams. We hope that this year will be a successful and an enjoyable one.

NEWS FROM TONGA HIGH SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL:
Received on June 21, 2000
The School is now having the mid-year exams plus the netball and rugby seasons. The senior first XV had their first game last Friday - against 'Atele, - 'Atele won and you don't want to know the score. However, we did better than the 'Ikale tahi!' We will play against Liahona this Friday pea ko e me'a ta'epau na'a sio lalo mai ha taha. We have a very good excuse though!!! Our Grade 5 is playing in the senior level as we don't have enough students at the senior team's age. The majority of Form 6 here at school are either 16 or 17 where as the senior teams need to be 18 or 19.
Our 'Form 7 is not participating - 'oku ngali fakamaahuahu 'aupito 'a e campus Halafo'ou ia ke tokoni mai ki he 'akapulu!, they reckon that is not their priority!!! (So is our form 6!!) Our Grade 1 - 4 is doing well and still in the top 6 teams. Our netball teams are still leading, we haven't lost any game for all of our 8 teams. The soccer will start their season in first week July. We won last year and we expect to keep up that reputation!! Volleyball competition will also start in July 3rd Friday. The ex-students donated 10 rugby balls, 2 volley balls and 10 netball balls at the begining of this term and I am very pleased that they are put into good use. Ngalu Fusimalohi - the FIFA president donated 10 soccer balls.
The ex-students and our deputy principal - Seini Vivili - are for ever talking of the fruitful and good time they had at your AGM there in Australia. Iwould like to pass on our sincere THANKS to all Australian Chapters and the ex-students from New Zealand for donating $4000, I have photocopied the cheque using A3 photocopy papers and pin them up in the staffroom for everyone to see. Some of the staff mumbled when the school paid for Seini's fare to come to Australia on the ex-student's invitation. Now they start arguing of the most urgent book needs to buy with the ex-students' money.
The PTA and the school are fundraising for named projects and one of them is the new classrooms which your ex-students generously pledged to join in. The ex-students and the school are planning to visit the King next week on 29th June - and 'failotu' , part of good wishes to the King's birthday. Ko e taumafa pe 'e teuteu 'e he ako tutuku pea 'alu mo e konga 'o e ako ke hiva 'i he failotu 'a e ako tutuku. The school also has ex-students whom are ordained ministers.
All the best for the second half year.
Regards
'Evaline (THSESWS Tonga correspondent)

A sub-committee has been set up and they are responsible for the running of this event. Programs for this event will be available soon and they will be distributed to all members.

AN INTERESTING QUESTION: CLEVER ANSWERS!
"WHY GOD NEVER RECEIVED TENURE AT UNIVERSITY?"
- Because he had only one major publication
- And it was in Hebrew
- And it had no cited references
- And it wasn't published in a referred journal or even submitted for peer review
- And some even doubt he wrote it himself
- It may be true that he created the world but what has he done since?
- The scientific community has had a very rough time trying to replicate his results
- He rarely came to class, just told students to read the book
- He expelled his first two students for learning
- Although there were only ten requirements, most students failed his tests
- His office hours were infrequent and usually held on a mountain top.
ARTICLE BY DR. WOLFGRAMM:
Dr.Robert Wolfgramm is a good friend of Loseli, his father is Tongan and his mother is Fijian. As a Tongan, he has been interested in what Tongans are doing and in particular the THSESWS. Dr. Wolfgramm is a lecturer at Monash University. The THSESWS has formally asked Dr. Wolfgramm to write us a special article on the political crisis in Fiji. What has happened in Fiji does not directly affect us but since we have so many of our ex-students studying at USP and some are also members of the USP staff, I believe that an article such as this does give us an insight to Fijian politics. This will also be of interest to the Fijian Chapter. Dr. Wolfgramm has written articles for the main newspapers here in Melbourne. Without further ado, let's hear it from Dr. Wolfgramm
