WORDS FROM THE WEBMASTER & OUR NEWSLETTER EDITOR:
Welcome to the THSESWS monthly newsletter for the month of October 2002. As Usual
the Golden Bridge chapter has dominated our newsletter for the month. It is encouraging to hear that
everyone in San Franscisco is working hard to make the celebration next year a success.
Dr. Uili Fukofuka was in San Francisco last week and managed to make it to one
of the meetings. As shown by the picture below, Dr. Fukofuka happily posed with the committee members and
was proud to be a guest in their meeting.
The THSESWS is also pleased to welcome new writers for our spiritual section. Rev. Kelepi Veikoso
and Dr. Lia Maka have submitted their first articles. These were warmly received and greatly appreciated by all ex-students who have had the
pleasure of reading them. We hope that this is the start of more to come. Well done Lia and Kelepi and thank you
very much for your contribution to our site! Finally, we must also thank 'Evaloni for her initiative in bringing these ex-students to
share with us their talents, spiritual knowledge and love.

NEWS FROM SAN FRANCISCO:
TEFUA 'A VAKA LAUTALA -
SAN FRANCISCO EDITION
Tonga High School Alumni - San Francisco Chapter.
Past Events.
October 2002, 4th edition
SAN FRANCISCO COMMITTEE UPDATE:
And the Beat goes on...
Staying the course, a strong dose of strict discipline,
a bit of focus, minus all distractions, thus remedied, revived the spirit,
maintaining the momentum, befitting a devoted and loyal host. The SF Committee,
exerted its physical prowess, walked the extra rugged terrain, brave the
storm, scurried mountains, just to uphold the “Golden Gate Bridge” image.
But of course, it is just a figment of our imagination, literally “ta’efieto,”
and will certainly give this 56th commemoration, our one and only "BEST"
shot. Hole on one and still going mighty stroooong...sweating profusely
with the knowledge learnt at Tonga High School and Sunday School “lotu
mo ngaue,” thus believed to guarantee a smooth sailing. The Committee is
a leading proponent of this very philosophy, and is leading by optimistic
examples.
SAN FRANCISCO CHAPTER:
“Ke kei takanga 'e tau fohe...”
As planned, the General meeting for October,
was implemented successfully. Understandably, life in the US is one complex
phenomenon, busy as can be, but that did not deter the “Die hards,” the
“Old Timers” and the “No lifers,” (Oooppss fakamolemole!) from attending
the General Meeting. The outcome was fulfilling, challenging and remarkably
regenerating. “More Power to the People! Ke kei takanga ‘etau fohe!” is
our political rally mission, pledged by the San Franciscans, although life
and schedules are so hectic at times, but the bottom line is, thoughts
and dedications are endlessly sustained.
Main Issues on the Agenda...
a) Raffle - As you are all aware, the raffle
tickets is our main source of finance for the upcoming function. We implore
you to launch your charming tactics now, and start assisting the Committee
in advertising, distributing and selling these tickets to friends, co-workers,
families and class-mates or just anyone interested. Better yet “find a
job and get off the unemployment line.” 2003 SUV is our strongest sales
pitch.
b) New additions to the SF Committee - It was
brought to the General Members attention, the significance of the appointed
leaders hands-on participation, especially in fulfilling and upholding
the responsibilities that comes with these territories, hence it was deemed
absolutely necessary, to assigned a selected few, to fill in and assist
with the operation of the Association.
WELCOME ABOARD:
Assistant President (2nd) - Siosi'ana Folaumoetu'i
Katoa.
Assistant Secretary (2nd) - Lita Tonga Howard.
c) Chapter Cultural Item - It was also approved
from this past meeting, that the San Francisco's Cultural number will be
a Lakalaka, and to be taught by one of the reputable punake from Lapaha,
who is residing here in San Francisco. Advisor, Leafa Tuita Taumoepeau,
committed to making all the arrangements. More details will be relayed,
once it becomes available.
d) Uniform Coat - The majority approved that the
San Franciscans should be outfitted in a uniformed coat. Midnight blue
in color, accessorized with golden buttons, adorned by the USA signature
Eagle embracing the Tonga High School's Logo “ Kihe Lelei Taha,”
and to be strategically placed on the pockets. A sample of this jacket
will be displayed, perhaps modeled in our next meeting. (Tara Banks,
or Fabio will do the honor )Trust us, it will be breath taking.

TEFUA 'A VAKA LAUTALA -SF (Newsletter and Radio
Venture)
The San Francisco Chapter were visited by a few
prominent figures from our Tonga High School global community and the pleasure
were indeed ours, to have them in our company. The Publicity Coordinators
seized these rare opportunities to feature them in our radio programs and
their contributions and priceless information regarding the present school
and the status of the preparation for next year's AGM, were indeed a blessing,
an inspiration, and a motivation to the rest of us residing here in the
US. Octobers featured guests were, our very own Advisor, Leafa Tuita Taumoepeau,
The Government of Tonga Printing Department Manager, S. Takitoa Taumoepeau,
and finally the President of the Tonga High School, Ex-students Association,
Dr. Viliami Fukofuka. (interview will be aired on Saturday, November 2nd).
Numerous attempts were made to feature Commander Sinilau Kolokihakaufisi,
while touring San Francisco with the Police Band, but to no avail, due
to conflicts in schedule.
Our most sincere gratitude goes to all of our
distinguished guests and many, many thanks for your participation.
Tune in to our Tefua 'a Vaka Lautala - SF Radio

IN THE HOOD - GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, that is!
Wazz up Man! Tradition dictates that October 31st
is the day of the Saints- dead ones in particular. However, dead people
are unappealing to children or it has reverse effects, therefore the digression
to other characters.
Decisions making, power struggle between Junior
and parents, to be the devil you know or the devil you don't know. The
choices are hopelessly nerve wrecking, from Frankeinstein, to Einstein,
from Dracula to Felehuhuni, from Osama to Saddam, from Fidel Castro to
George Bush, from Superman to Spiderman, from Spiderwoman to Alviera....
Wheeeewww! 'tafi pupuha'.
“Aight, lookie here Sonnie! you can be George
Bush, but no weapons of Mass Destruction in the house. Are we clear?”
Yes Sir! Our disguise you asked? Oh! that's easy. Ourselves of course.
Petrified yet? Aint we spooky enough? ... loi pe ia. A trick of course,
and a treat to follow

very welcome!” Send us some news too!
Texas – “Yeee Haww!” In Southern accent, and
cowboy attire, rounding up the herd. The few adventurous, rough and tough,
THS ex-students residing in Texas are thrilled to draw from the San Franciscans
spirit. Their helping hand is extended and we'll keep that in mind.
UPCOMING EVENTS.
"KI HURA KI RUNGA" - DANCE, DANCE, DANCE.
The class of 1972, (Siosi'ana Folaumoetu’I
Katoa, Mafi Havili and Litia Tu’ipulotu Mapa) happily volunteered to organize
our upcoming dance, debuting, once again, their very own Disk Jockey, Mafi
Havili and the Boys (fanafana “he's the best, what do you expect? THS breed,
please!”) “Hit it again, Boys.” Whether it is a divine waltz, cunning fox-trot,
vibrating disco, sweat out salsa, or graceful tau'olunga, Mafi and the
class of '72 will not let you down. So, get out the dancing shoes, and
start polishing them or better yet, start polishing the dancing moves.
Spread the words and listen to our radio program, for the updated information,
as we keep you informed.
