WORDS FROM THE WEBMASTER & OUR NEWSLETTER EDITOR:

Welcome to the THSESWS monthly newsletter for the month of February 2002. We are glad to have some pictures from Tonga, courtesy of Samuela Taufa. We are also grateful to have some news from New Zealand regarding their preparation for the 2002 celebration.

Siosi Sovaleni has informed 'Amelia Piutau of the new edition of the Tefua 'A Vakalautala quarterly newsletter for this year. According to 'Amelia, Siaosi has promised her a copy of the newsletter to be published here for everyone to read. The THSESWS would be grateful to get hold of a copy of this newsletter as a medium of communication between the Executive committee in Tonga and overseas chapters. Let's hope that Siaosi will not let us down!

We are proud of some of our ex-students who have excelled in their careers and now posted to other parts of the world to take up new positions in their respective area of expertise. These ex-students are listed under the news from New Zealand. Congratulations to these fine ex-students who have done us all proud of their achievements!

NEWS FROM MELBOURNE:

The Melbourne Chapter is still on Holiday mode but soon we will have to start preparing for the celebration in New Zealand.

NEWS FROM SAN FRANCISCO:

Greetings again from the Bay Area! This month has proved to be a very exciting one for the busy San Franciscans!! The celebration of Valentine's Day tended to lure most of our singles out of town to more secluded but romantic places like Tahiti and even to the far West Indies not to mention that one soul that reached the Virgin Islands! Oh! Oh!!! Pretty scary!

However, the secret about these trips was, our singles went only either with their co-workers or school colleagues! No LOVERS there!! Fanga ki'i me'a pehee… koe koloa pe aa e 'eva! Ha! Ha!) The newly weds and young couples took some days off and got themselves some nice suites in a hotel! And the 'older ones' you know…with many kids around treated their families with some rental PG movies and watched them at home. That was it for Valentine's!

Following the Valentine's was the Winter Olympics! Though it was not held here in California, some of our members made it to Salt Lake City just to have a close look at those Figure Skating competitions! Now it's over, most seems to be back to their normal schedule…work, work, work and more work!

Apart from these happenings, our Committee continues its struggles to fulfill its many responsibilities. Nonetheless, I can still gladly declare that everything is fine with the S.F Chapter and here are their latest…

School Day Commemoration.

As the School Day Commemoration in New Zealand draws near, the list of those who are interested in attending has increased tremendously. Last Saturday, Feb. 23rd, the Committee aired its first radio announcement regarding the plans for the upcoming event. We'll continue to air this announcement in weeks to come until further notice.

There will be another Committee meeting next week Saturday, March 9th, to discuss and confirm the following:

-Whether or not there will be any function held here for those remaining
-If so, what is it and when
-And a cultural number to be performed by those who will be going to N.Z.
We will keep everyone informed with this meeting's decisions. Please stay tune!

It is desirable that the N.Z Committee will continue to keep us posted with the status of their program including any changes they might have while preparing for the event. It would also be most appreciated if we will be sent the final program by the first week of April. Does this sound like we are asking the Kiwis for a favor here? Most likely, yes!!!

Status of our Library Books Assignment.

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, our Committee met with Uili Fukofuka on January 18th. In this meeting the 'Library Books Appeal' was among the top priority items on the agenda. Concerning our S.F Chapter Book Assignment, Mr. Fukofuka proposed to have the present school order our list of books from N.Z. then have the book vendors send us the invoice for payment.

Our Committee endorsed this proposal after considering the many good reasons supporting this recommendation. Now we are awaiting the arrival of the bills!!!

According to our President, Ms. Ma'ata F. Misinale, the San Francisco Chapter stands ready with its finances to take care of the matter as long as the school STAYS WITHIN the SCOPE of our BUDGET!!!

Finally, we got this report from the:
