Welcome to the THSESWS monthly newsletter for the month of March 2002. There are only just over a couple of months now before the "main event" takes place in New Zealand. In case, some of you are wondering, what the main event is - it is of course the celebration of the school's birthday in Auckland, New Zealand. Kuo ngatuu e tapa kotoa e kolope he kuo teauaki e katoanga fakamanatu 'aho 'a e "Ako Ma'olunga 'O Tonga - 'a e ako 'iloa koia ne fokotu'u pea taku ko e maa'imoa 'a 'ene 'afio. Yes, this year's celebration has promised to be the best ever. Tonga High School has again led the way in pioneering a celebration of this kind. No other school from the Kingdom of Tonga has performed such a feat but no dout there will be plenty who will pursue the same path. It was initiated by the ex-students from "The Land Down Under" and it is now the turn of the ladies and Gentlemen from the one and only; "The Land of the Long White Cloud". Go Kiwi Land!
From across the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, to the Atlantic and right through to Europe and another 120 degree (true bearing) turn back to the Pacific; the aura of this celebration has been magnified exponentially. Every Tonga High School Ex-student Chapter is doing their bit in preparation for this magnificent event. We are delighted to draw your attention to the preparation of the Melbourne chapter which is in full swing, thanks to the hard work of the following die-hard members (Finau Palu, Lavinia Pongi, Loketi & Latu Heimoana, Ma'ata Heimoana, 'Aneti Puamau) and other supporting members behind the scene which cannot be named for there are too many of them. A function to be held on April 27 will help finalise Melbourne's grand plan for the Auckland celebration. The ma'ulu'ulu led by Loketi is one that other chapters will be envious of, not only these guys can move but they are absolutely fantastic to watch. Go Melbourne!
Not to be outdone by the Melbourne chatper, San Francisco has reminded us that the elegant ladies and handsome men from the Golden Bridge remain a formidable force to be reckoned with. They are working on their own dances for the celebration and if what their secretary ('Amelia Piutau) has told me about their preparation is an indication to what they do then I am afraid San Francisco will give each chapter a run for their money in terms of their items for the celebration. San Francisco has opted to go international in their dances without being restricted to Tongan dances only and I can tell you that this is going to be one hell of a show. Without further ado, be in Auckland to witness such performances of the millennium. Malie San Francisco.
We have just received a message from Emile Hons (a former teacher of Tonga High and the webmaster of "The Coconut Wireless" that his site has been updated with about 100 more pictures, so check it out guys! The URL is: www.friendsoftonga.com . We must also thank Emile for supplying all the pictures for this month's newsletter.
Finally, we managed to bring to you the New Zealand's news for this month. New Zealand is very important to us at this point of time for they are our source of information regarding the celebration of our school's birthday. 'Eseta of the Auckland committee has worked very hard indeed to compile and submit the news from New Zealand and therefore we must thank her for her cooperation. Thank you so much 'Eseta
Kia Ora and Greetings from the Land of the Long White Cloud!! Hope your are all well, fighting fit and ready for our big celebration here in Auckland. Well it's not long to go, we have only two months and three days left.

NEWS FROM MELBOURNE:
As mentioned above, the Melbourne Chapter is steaming ahead with their preparation for the celebration in New Zealand. Janet Rollo, the president of this magnificent chapter is the owner of "Janet Tours" and she is doing her best to negotiate cheaper fares for those members who will be flying across the Tasman.
The Melbourne function which is to be held on April,27 is going to be the biggest event ever attempted by this chapter. Ticket sales has been implemented and every member is encouraged to sell an allocated number of 10 tickets at $20 each. There are potential guests from Sydney and other states as well and it is hoped that this will be a successful one for a lot of effort has been put into this event by the working committee which is run by Loketi, Latu, Ma'ata, Milise, Lavinia Pongi and Finau Palu. Well done guys and keep up the good work!
For those members who have not turned up to any of our meetings and previous get together, please turn up and show your support to keep this chapter moving forward. The Melbourne chapter is growing gradually but with the support of each single member; the Melbourne chapter will become strong and one that each one of us will be proud of. So, make sure that April 27 is free and mark it down on your organiser so that each one will be there and enjoy the night together with the guests.
