WORDS FROM THE WEBMASTER & OUR NEWSLETTER EDITOR:

Welcome to the Tonga High School Ex-Student's Newsletter for the month of April, 2003. It is getting closer and closer to the celebration in San Francisco and please remember that the original date for the event has been delayed as shown on earlier "Latest Additions" to this site.

The THSESWS hereby acknowleges the good work performed by 'Evaloni and her team in making sure that we do have a "spiritual" article for each month. Special thanks to Sione Naulivou for sharing an uplifting spiritual article with us for the month of April. Well done Sione!

The THSESWS newsletter team hereby apologise for the delay in the publication of April's newsletter. A lot of things did not go according to plan and the biggest factor was getting the time to compile the news. So, here it is..

NEWS FROM MELBOURNE:

The Melbourne Chapter conducted its annual function on April,12 and it was a great night indeed. The secretaries would like to thank everyone who attended for coming along and supported this important event. It was great to see many of the ex-students as well as ex-students from other schools.

The night was very successful and visitors who turned up for the first time had so much praise for the organisers of such a great event. To all the ladies, Mrs Janet Rollo, Mrs Kioa(and her daughters), Mrs Palu (Finau Palu), 'Aneti Puamau, Loketi Heimoana, Susana Helu, Ma'ata Heimoana and their helpers - thank you all for your hard work. This annual event would not have been as successful if it was not for your hard work. Well done and congratulations to all.

NEWS FROM THE ACADEMIC FRONT:

We are all proud to hear that one of our ex-students (Sela Po'uha) from Fakakakai, Ha'apai has just begun her PhD in medical research at Children's Cancer Institute Australia in Sydney. Sela featured in one of our newsletters two years ago when she gratuated with honours in Biochemistry. Since then, Sela went back to Tonga and worked for two years before coming back to Sydney to do her PhD. For me personally, I am so proud to see Sela's success. Sela is infact, my neighbour back in the island of Fakakakai and I left Tonga when Sela was still a kid. When I heard of Sela's graduation two years ago, I felt this sense of satisfaction to see someone who grew up in my island being successful. I included a paragraph or two on the newsletter I mentioned earlier about Sela and I did not think she got to read it then. Just last month, I got an email from Sela asking to include her email on our email database. It was then that I started writing to Sela and found out more about her course. Now, Sela is not the only PhD student or holder Tonga High School has produced but this is something significant for my island and I can't help letting everyone knows about it. So, if I sound like a broken record then please forgive me. I am so proud of Sela as my neighbour and as an ex-student of our famous school.

Until next time, take care!
